Threatened Family Filed Complaint

Certain Julie Garcia, 28, married and a resident of Blk. 6 Rafe, Brgy. Tambulilid, Ormoc City filed complaint at the Police Precinct 3 regarding a threat. According to the complainant, around 7 in the morning of January 31, live-in couple Reynaldo Quizon and Mary Grace Oliveros threatened Garcia’s family. Oliveros was said to have brought a deadly weapon and threatened to kill the family of the complainant. Case is already at the barangay level.

2 Armed Persons Arrested

Call from a concerned citizen has been received by the office of the Police Precinct 1 regarding a certain Carlito, a warranted person with 2 other armed men seen at Purok 9 Brgy. Lake Danao, Ormoc City. PP1 at once responded to the call headed by PInsp. Machete, OIC of the said precinct together with his men and the OCPO, Ormoc City Police Office lead by PInsp. Tan so to check the information received. The group’s move was able to capture Jermelito Perez alias Jaime, 32, married, a laborer and resident of Cabunga-an, Danao City, Cebu and temporarily residing at Baybay City where a .22 magnum revolver has been recovered with four live bullets. Also a certain Agustin Loreto, 59, married, a security guard and resident of Gun-ob, Lapu-lapu City, Cebu also temporarily residing at Brgy. Kilim, Baybay, Leyte and from whom recovered a .357 magnum (silver color) with 5 live bullets.

Two arrested persons now detained at the Police Station 1, Ormoc City, waiting for the formal case filed to them.

Walay igo nga ebidensya para kasuhan og plunder si kanhi Armed Forces of the Philippines comptroller ret. Major General Carlos Garcia sigun ni Ombudsman Merceditas Gutierrez atol sa pagdungog sa kaso kagahapon sa Kongreso.

Sigun ni Gutierrez nga gikinahanglan ang plea bargain nga gipermahan niadtong Pebrero 25, 2010 alang sa interes sa nasod.

Giinsister ni Gutierez nga puros lamang trial by publicity ang gibuhat kanila gumikan sa sayop nga pasangil nila  kanhi Ombudsman Simeon Marcelo ug kanhi Special Prosecutor Dennis Villa-Ignacio.

Ex-COA auditor mulakaw nga naka ‘hubo’ kung ma-abswelto si Garcia
Andam nga mulakaw nga naka-hubo gikan sa Sandiganbayan hangtud sa Welcome Rotonda sa Quezon City ang kanhi auditor sa Commission on Audit Heidi Mendoza kung ma-dismis ang kaso kontra kang ex-AFP comptroller General Carlos Garcia.

Si Mendoza ang nag-audit sa pension fund sa mga sundalo, Balikatan fund, UN fund, ug AFP Modernization fund isip suporta sa imbestigasyon sa Office of the Ombudsman, nga gidumala kaniadto ni Simeon Marcelo, sa matud pa, corruption sa military nga mudawit kang Garcia.

Brgy. Punta Sinulog Festival - A Success

Celebration of the Sinulog Festival held last January 30, 2011 has been successful in honor of Sr. Sto. Nino. Said event started with a mass celebrated by Rev. Fr. Danny Pongos. Right after the mass, the Street Dancing followed where 9 contingents joined. Final presentation was then held at the Barangay's covered court.

Purok Tinago bagged the Best in Street Dancing award and Purok Gumamela clinched the Champion's throne. Purok Dama de Noche however got the 2nd place followed by Purok Tinago.

Vicariate Sportsfest in Ormoc City

On Febuary 13, 2011, a Vicariate Sportsfest is to take place for the Launching of the Year of the Youth where it aims to increase the social awareness of the youth as well as gather them. The said event will start at around 5 o'clock in the morning where there will be a jogging activity for the participants as Opening and right after, "Laro ng Lahi" will start then ball games are scheduled in the afternoon.

Ormoc Media Practitioners Attend DRR/DRM Training-Workshop

Ormoc media practioners headed by the Organization of Responsible Media of Ormoc City attend Training-Workshop on Disaster Risk Reduction and Disaster Reduction Management at the Sabin Resort Hotel from Feb. 1-2, 2011 sponsored by the GIZ or Deutsche Gesellschaft fur Internationale Zusammenarbeit to increase the participants' level of awareness in these two programs that the sponsors aim fulfill.

Speaker Allen Molen of GIZ stressed out the relevance of media awareness on disaster reduction management since the media plays a big role in the people of Ormoc's awareness too of what may happen. He also shared with the group details from the World Meteorological Organization, United Nations' Authoritative Voice on weather, climate water that all models predict a continuation of the current La Nina for at least the next 2-4 months, through the first quarter of 2011 and possibly into the second quarter (April or early May). His good way of starting off with all the other participants.

Another guest speaker, Ms. Adelaida "G" Alvarez, a media practitioner, President of the Center for Disaster Preparedness, Inc., lead the group to a workshop on Current Reality Dialogue which revived the participation of the group for the said activity.

Ormoc City Mayor Eric "Beboy" Codilla also expressed his sincere gratitude not just to the speakers but to the media as well for according to him, the media has the key to social awareness of calamities that may occur and the event is very much essential in achieving such. He also said that the media's way of delivery brings out either the downfall or the survival of the country.
